Bay Medical Grand Opening Set for September 8, 2010
July 23, 2010
Christa Dean Hild
Bay Medical’s new patient care tower will open ahead of schedule on September 8th. The five-story tower includes 144 private patient rooms, a new cafeteria and will serve as the new main entrance for the hospital. The new patient rooms will offer 5-star amenities such as flat screen televisions, wi-fi access, personal thermostats and comfortable sleeper couches for family members who wish to stay with their loved ones during their hospitalization.
Designed with a curve to the building, inspired by sailboats on St. Andrews Bay, the curve of the hallways enables a greater line of site of the patient rooms from each nursing station and provides more natural light in patient care areas and waiting rooms. In addition, each room has a work area set into the wall behind the patient bed. This allows the nurse to complete bedside tasks with out unnecessary disturbances or turning on overhead lights at night when the patient is resting.
Expanded Critical Care
One third of the new rooms are designed to serve as intensive care units. Bay Medical is recognized nationally for excellence in critical care and is listed among the top 10 in Florida, however with an ever growing population Bay Medical has reached capacity and has at times had to divert patients in need of a critical care bed to other hospitals. With the opening of the expansion, our critical care nursing areas will move into new and larger units with a greater capacity to care for local patients in need.
