|Parents’ pages: Homegrown is better|
Youngsters who routinely eat their own homegrown fruits and vegetables consume more servings of these nutritious foods than kids who don’t grow their own fruits and veggies, says a study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. The study sample included 1,600 parents of preschool children in rural southeast Missouri. The children who ate the most fruits and veggies were positively influenced to make healthier food choices because they were involved in growing and cooking their own vegetables and saw their parents consuming them.
