|Car seats back and center|
Where’s the safest place to install your child’s car safety seat? Answer: In the center of the back seat, say researchers at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. After studying car crash data from 16 states, authors found that children ages 3 and younger were 43 percent less likely to be injured if their safety seat was centered in the back seat instead of installed on the side. Although this position was the least popular—it’s more difficult to strap a child in and can make the back seat a tight squeeze for others—it’s clearly the safest location and offers better protection during side-impact crashes.
