|Ginger helps quell nausea from chemotherapy|
We know that ginger can help soothe a sick stomach, but new research suggests that it’s also effective against the nausea brought on by chemotherapy. In a study supported by the National Cancer Institute, nearly 650 people with a history of chemotherapy-induced nausea took traditional antinausea drugs and either a placebo or a ginger supplement for three days before and after the start of their next two chemotherapy cycles. Those receiving the 0.5 gram (g) and 1 g doses of the ginger supplement—equal to about one-quarter teaspoon to one-half teaspoon of ground ginger—seemed to benefit the most, with a 40 percent reduction in nausea on the first day of chemotherapy. Ask your physician if ginger could help ease your upset stomach.
