Breast Feeding

The Bay Medical-Sacred Heart Family Birth Center has a certified lactation consultant/RN on staff to provide support and encouragement to each new mother to ensure that every baby gets the special attention they deserve for a successful breastfeeding experience. In addition, Bay Medical-Sacred Heart Family Birth Center is proud to offer Kangaroo Care to all patients to encourage bonding immediately after birth.

The lactation consultant is a teacher and a counselor, who helps mothers understand the fundamentals of lactation as well as supporting their efforts to learn how to feed their babies. She can help with issues such as latching difficulties, painful nursing, low milk production or inadequate weight gain.

The consultant is available while you are in the hospital and by phone or appointment after you return home.

To make an appointment to see a lactation consultant or to get information about what to expect, please call (850) 747-6456. Or visit our calendar of events to register for a prenatal breastfeeding class.
