Foundation of Bay Medical Kicks Off Fundraising Campaign for West Tower Project
April 17, 2002
The Foundation of Bay Medical launched the public phase of its West Tower fundraising campaign today, with gifts and pledges already totaling more than $1,150,000. Funds raised by the campaign will be used to help furnish and equip the new five-story state-of-the-art-facility.
Today at a campaign kick-off luncheon, the Foundation presented the hospital with the first check to help pay for new equipment for the West Tower. The check for $508,343 will be used to pay for beds and stretchers, ICU beds, electro-surgical units, defibrillation units, a portable radiological unit and a motorized film viewer.
The West Tower facility which is set to start opening this summer will house a new emergency room that is three times the size of the current ER, eight new operating suites and expanded surgical preparation and recovery areas, a new 10-bed kidney dialysis unit, expanded cardiac services including a new 16-bed coronary intensive care unit and three new cath labs, and new private patient rooms.
The total cost for the West Tower, including construction, medical equipment and furnishings, is over $34 million. The majority of the funds necessary to complete the building were secured through the bond market. But, in order to fully equip and furnish the West Tower to the level required to make it a state-of-the-art facility, more funds are needed. The Foundation is looking to the community for help in completing this critical project for Bay Medical.
At the kick-off today, the Foundation also presented plans for its recognition monument at the front entrance of the West Tower, which includes the opportunity for BMC employees and members of the community to purchase brick pavers. Other recognition includes among other things the opportunity to name the building for a gift of $1 million, to name one of the five floors for $250,000, an ER waiting room for $50,000, and one of the new private rooms for $10,000.
