Recently FDA Approved InSync Pacemaker Available at Bay Medical to Treat Heart Failure

May 21, 2002

Approved by the FDA in August 2001, the InSync pacemaker is the first major therapeutic breakthrough for treatment of heart failure since the development of specialized drug treatments. Bay Medical Center is pleased to announce that this new technology is now available in our community. The treatment signals a new era in device-based solutions for this condition and brings hope to thousands of long-suffering patients who have moderate to severe heart failure.

The InSync device is used in cardiac resynchronization therapy, which can be used when a patient’s heart failure is caused by a time delay between the beating of the heart’s two lower chambers. The InSync, which is about the size of two silver dollars pressed together, is attached to the heart with three leads that send electrical impulses that regulate the beating of the heart.

Joey Trantham, M.D. has been performing this procedure since early 2002 and it is available in our area only at Bay Medical Center.
