Hip ArthroscopyFebruary 24, 2016
Panama City, Fla. -At one time, hip pain lead to complicated treatment and a possible hip replacement.
Now a minimally invasive procedure is allowing patients to avoid hip replacement and recover faster. The advanced surgery is known as Hip Arthroscopy.
Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Michael Adams says, “with two or three small incisions, we can get inside the hip joint to look and treat different disease processes.” He says the recovery time is much shorter than if a patient needed a hip replacement.
Sheila Jimenez had severe pain before visiting Dr. Adams.
“I had incredible pain inside the hip joint. It hurt to stand, to walk, to sit, and I could only sleep for two hours a night,” says Jimenez.
Dr. Adams explains that “most people are back to running within two or three months” after the surgery.
Jimenez recently completed a Warrior Dash consisting of an obstacle course. She says this procedure has been “lifesaving” for her.
As far as recovery time goes, Jimenez says she was on crutches for about 6 weeks with three months of physical therapy.
Hip Arthroscopy is an outpatient procedure.
