Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Posted on

Panama City, Forida – Advances in surgery are allowing Bay County doctors to perform spinal surgeries that are much less invasive than traditional methods.

Minimally invasive spine surgery is designed to help with pain associated with the back, leg and herniated or slipped discs.

Neurosurgeon Dr. Cyril Desilva says the minimally invasive surgery allows for less time in the hospital and a much faster recovery. Traditional surgery requires a large incision and the entire back has to be opened to get to the spine. The minimally invasive procedure only requires very small incisions.

Dr. Desilva explains, “Minimally invasive surgery works by using a microscope and tubes to go through the muscle and tissue above the spine to get to the spine rather than having to open the entire spine to get from point a to point b.”

Most patients can walk within 24 to 48 hours after surgery.

Dr. Desilva also performs a minimally invasive procedure on the neck. A free seminar on that new treatment will be held at the Bay Medical Auditorium on April 10th at 5 p.m. Call 747-6541 for more information and to make reservations to attend.
