Preparing for Joint Replacement SurgeryFebruary 24, 2016
Panama City, Fla. – Bay Medical Center’s Joint Program is offered every week. It’s designed for patients who are scheduled to undergo a hip, knee or shoulder procedure. Medical professionals say these types of surgeries are occurring in younger and younger patients.
Deborah Rodeheaver is 57 years old and had a total hip replacement. She’s now undergoing physical therapy at Bay Medical Center.
“I had surgery on Tuesday, and I started walking on Wednesday,” Rodeheaver stated.
Before the surgery, she attended the Joint Program and says it helped her understand what she was about to undergo as far as the surgery was concerned. The pre-surgery class focuses on preparing for the surgery physically, pain control, what to expect during and after surgery, and how to prepare the home for a safe return.
Medical professionals have tracked the progress of those patients who’ve taken the class and say they’ve seen shorter hospital stays and a faster recovery for those patients.
Deborah is doing well and is looking forward to what’s ahead.
“Going back to work and living a normal life again and not having the pain,” she said with a smile.
If you are interested in the Joint Program, you should let your physician know, and then arrangements can be made with Bay Medical Center
