Bay Medical provides the best in diagnostic testing by combining the sophisticated power of technology with the expertise of highly skilled physicians and technologists.

Bay Medical’s diagnostic network offers three locations to serve you (see link at bottom of page). These include the Bay Medical Outpatient Center on the campus of Bay Medical Sacred Heart hospital on the corner of Highway 77 and 7th Street; Bay Medical Diagnostic Center on the corner of Highway 77 and Baldwin Road; and Bay Med at the Beach, 11111 Panama City Beach Parkway.

Diagnostic tests have different requirements. Some require an appointment and some require fasting. All require that you bring your physician orders with you to the exam. If you are required to have an appointment, you may pre-register for any of our locations by calling (850) 747-6987.

Our tests include:

CT Scan
A Computer Tomography (CT) scan is used to evaluate injuries or diseases, allowing physicians to obtain wafer-thin cross-sections of the inside of the body. These highly detailed images assist the physician in making a quick and accurate diagnosis.

Requirements:

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center and Bay Medical at the Beach

EKG
Electrocardiogram (EKG) is a brief and painless procedure that measures the heart’s electrical activity to evaluate cardiovascular disease.

Requirements:

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center and Bay Medical at the Beach

DEXA Scan
Bone Densitometry is used to measure bone density in evaluation of osteoporosis, a disease characterized by bone loss. This advanced, specialized type of x-ray takes only a few minutes to complete and involves no invasive procedures or injections. Because osteoporosis can be treated and even reversed in many cases, DEXA is an important tool for patients and physicians.

Requirements:

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center

Laboratory
Laboratory test results are typically available to physicians within 24 hours. However, some specialized tests and cultures must be sent out for detailed evaluation and therefore require additional time for final results.

Requirements:

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center, Bay Medical Diagnostic Center and Bay Medical at the Beach

Mammography
A mammography is an x-ray image of the breast used to detect tumors and cysts often much earlier than can be detected by touch. The mammography equipment compresses the breast so that all the breast tissue can be more clearly seen. Bay Medical uses the latest in digital mammography for the sharpest images possible and a faster exam. Bay Medical’s mammography facility is certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and its mammography service is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Requirements:

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center

MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging involves the use of a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and high-powered computers to produce incredibly clear, anatomical images. MRI is helpful in evaluating disease and injury to the body, particularly in the neurological and orthopedic areas. Highly detailed images of the internal body structures can be viewed by the physician without the need for surgery. Bay Medical’s MRI facility, offering both conventional and open MRI, has been accredited by the American College of Radiology.

Requirements:

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center and Bay Medical at the Beach

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine uses radioactive isotopes to visualize and image specific body systems and organs. This procedure requires a painless injection of a short-lived radioactive material with no aftereffect. This test is used to evaluate the cardiovascular system, bones, lungs, and abdominal organs. All technologists in this department at Bay Medical are certified Nuclear Medicine Technologists.

Requirements:

Ultrasound
An ultrasound is used to evaluate most body systems which include the organs of the abdomen, pelvis, and vascular system. Completely non-invasive and painless, an ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves as its imaging source. Bay Medical ultrasound technologists are specially trained and are certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.

Requirements:

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center, Bay Medical Diagnostic Center and Bay Medical at the Beach

X-Ray
Skilled technologists at Bay Medical provide x-ray imaging on a walk-in basis without an appointment. An x-ray, or photograph taken with high-energy photons with a short wavelength, takes only a few minutes to complete.

Available at: Bay Medical Outpatient Center, Bay Medical Diagnostic Center and Bay Medical at the Beach

Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is a medical imaging specialty in which physicians use x-ray and ultrasound guidance to perform minimally invasive procedures. Catheters, guide wires and other small instruments are inserted in blood vessels or other pathways to diagnose and treat diseases. Bay Medical’s Interventional Radiology Suite is staffed with experienced Radiologic Technologists and Registered Nurses who provide around-the-clock care for our patients and support for our physicians.

Interventional Radiology procedures typically are not as invasive or traumatic to the patient as traditional surgery and recovery time is faster and the procedure less costly. Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis without general anesthesia, which allows the patient to go home the same day.

Interventional Radiology Procedures performed at Bay Medical include:
