Surgery for women is broadly divided into Obstetrics and Gynecology. Obstetrics focuses on women’s care during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period. Cesarean Section (C- Section) is a surgical procedure for delivering a baby when a vaginal delivery is not advisable or possible. Bay Medical-Sacred Heart regularly performs C-Sections as well as more routine deliveries with our highly trained physicians, nurses and staff in the Family Birthing Center.
Gynecologic Surgery covers a much broader spectrum of procedures involving the female reproductive organs. Hysterectomy, Tubal Ligation, and many diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed in our Operating Room. Many of these procedures are performed through a laparoscope, which permits the surgeon to operate through a smaller incision. Procedures to treat urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse as well as various types of cancer are routinely performed at Bay.
Bay Medical-Sacred Heart also employs the use of the revolutionary DaVinci® robot for many of our Gynecologic surgeries. Our specially trained surgeons and staff use this exciting new technology to perform Hysterectomies and other procedures, making the surgery less traumatic for the patient and reducing recovery time. Bay Medical-Sacred Heart Center was the first hospital in the area to use the DaVinci® robot; and, has successfully performed hundreds of these procedures over the last six years.
